H. Wendell Eyre, 72, 2130 Merriwether, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1992, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion, Ill.

He was born Sept. 28, 1919, at Mt. Vernon, Ill., son of Fred and Daisy Wimberley Eyre. He and Glodean Springer were married Dec. 28, 1940, in St. Louis.

The Eyres moved here in 1956. He was a technician at Montgomery Ward from 1955-74, and a technician at Sears from 1974 until retiring in 1982. He was a member of Red Star Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Army in the Western European Campaign during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Wendell and dAvid Eyre of St. Louis, Carl Eyre of Sacramento, Calif.; three sisters, Nova Thomas of Beaverton, Ore., Aline Cash of Mt. Vernon, Marcella Holdiman of Anchorage, Alaska, and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Cy Smith will officiate, with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 3838.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
