Gynel Nickell, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born April 14, 1936, in Douglas County, Ill., to Marvel and Florence Benner Snyder. She and Dr. Franklin Nickell were married Sept. 9, 1956, in Garrett, Ill.

Gynel was a beautician in Albuquerque, N.M., several years. She had managed the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri from the beginning. She also worked in the nursery at Southeast Hospital two years. She was a compassionate person and caretaker of people and animals. She was of the Lutheran belief.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Franklin Nickell of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Rosalee Johns of Ponce Inlet, Fla., and Daplyn Snyder of Monroe, Wash.; many nieces, nephews, and foster children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and a half brother.

A family service will be held at a later date.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
