Grace Virginia Shaner, 98, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Monticello House.
She was born June 24, 1912, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Alvin and Mary Francis Minton. She and Howard Shaner were married in 1950. He passed away in 1982.
Grace was baptized at Rock Hill Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau County. She is a graduate of the former Fruitland School. She retired in 1974 after 36 years of employment with International Shoe Co. in Jackson. Grace is a former member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Fruitland, and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include a son, Robert D. (Mary Terry) Bonney of Fruitland; a daughter, Marilyn (Jack) Griner of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren, Leslie (Pete) McHughs of Thebes, Ill., Robert J. (Kimberly) Bonney and Bill (Anna) Bonney of Jackson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Buddy Joe Bonney; three brothers, Hugh Minton, Joe (Annabelle) Minton and Glen "Jumbo" (Dorothy) Minton; and three sisters, Willie (John) Statler, Louise (Doc) Saupe and Mary C. Minton.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Fruitland.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Southeast Hospice or Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund.
