Gloria Jean Fowler, 83, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born to James and Robbie Hurt Ballard on Nov. 10, 1940, and was raised by them and her stepfather, David Mills. On July 3, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Don Fowler, who survives.

Gloria was a gentle, kind and loving woman, who lived her life serving others. Although she worked in many professional areas, she expanded her passion to serve others after she graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with an associate degree in nursing in 1983. She was a pediatric nurse at Southeast Hospital, where she lovingly cared for her patients for over 16 years. She used her medical experience while on mission trips through her membership at Lynwood Baptist Church. Gloria loved to travel, read and spend time with her family.

Gloria had a joyous heart and quick humor that she shared so willingly with others, especially her children, Mark (Ann) Fowler of Herculaneum and Marty (Linda) Fowler of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Katie (Alex) Immer of Imperial, Casey Fowler of St. Louis, Corey (Maggie) Fowler of St. Charles and Ben (Makayla) Fowler and Hayden Fowler, both of Cape Girardeau; and three great-grandchildren, Jonah and Robbie Immer and River Fowler. She is also greatly loved by her nephew, four nieces and sisters-in-law, Diane (Barney) Fowler Adams and Lucinda Mills of Paducah, Kentucky.
