ULLIN, Ill. -- Glenn E. Newell, 86, of Ullin died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 24, 1917, at Ullin, son of William Edward and Carrie Illman Newell. He and Mildred Sheffer were married Jan. 31, 1934. She died March 24, 1997.
Mr. Newell was owner/operator of Newell Trucking. His passion was trucking and his work ethic, which he instilled in all his children. He worked as a truck driver until age 80.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Melvin Smith of Tamms, Ill.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Mary Catherine Newell of Anna, Ill., James and Carolyn Newell of Ullin, David and Anna Newell of Kelso, Mo., Michael and Diann Newell of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Ruth Lessar of Tamms, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Newell and Roy Newell, and a half sister, Stella Swain.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday until time of service.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gene Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
