CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Glenda LaFern Manche, 73, of Charleston died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.

She was born Dec. 14, 1939, in Winfield, Ala., to the late Willie H. "Bill" and Lucille E. Jones McDonald. She lived in Southeast Missouri most of her life, where she was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Morley, Mo., Sedgewickville, Mo., Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, and East Prairie, Mo., before retiring in 1990 from her position as postmaster of the Charleston office.

Glenda served several years as secretary/treasurer of the regional postal workers association in addition to her many civic involvements including the arts councils in Cape Girardeau, Sikeston and Charleston, Molly French Garden Club, Charleston Art Club and Charleston Business and Professional Women's Club.

After her retirement, she opened an art studio in Charleston, The Red Geranium, where she hosted theme parties the first Saturday night of each month combining music, hors d'oeuvres and the work of various area artists. She attended United Methodist Church in Charleston, and found great joy in helping others and traveling.

In 1956 she married Jerry May, who survives of Morley. On April 16, 1988, she married Wilbert G. Manche, who preceded her in death May 19, 2008.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Tammy May of Cape Girardeau and Jay and Lisa May of Oran, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vera and Rick Pobst of Oran and Jerra and Chris Hutson of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Bill (Wanda) McDonald of Wentzville, Mo., and James (Hazel) McDonald of Sikeston; a sister, Wanda (Gary) Holland of Fayette, Ark.; seven grandchildren; her companion, Dickie Hanor of Charleston; his daughters, Kristi Hamrick and Lynne Schwartzbauer; and his mother, Irene Hanor.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the United Methodist Church in Charleston.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. David R. Collum, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of her coffee group: Betty Moss, Mae and Donnie McClain, Jo Ann and Dennis Quertermous, Dorothy and Byron McDowell, Margie Double, Shirley Dugan, Bobby Williams, Larry and Neeci Bowles, Charlie and Teresa Kuykendall, Fred DeField, Bill Brown, Rex Davidson, Sandy Harvey, and Libby and Don Stracener.
