JACKSON, Mo. -- Gladys Lee O'Farrell, age 90, passed away Friday, April 27, 2001, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson, Missouri. Friends may call Sunday, April 29th, between 5 and 8 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be Monday, April 30th, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Fairmont Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. John Rice will officiate.
Ms. O'Farrell was born November 1, 1910, at Rum Branch, Missouri, daughter of Mayo and Naomi Tilley Strong.
Loving survivors include three sisters, Chloree "C" Williams and Bernice Chastain, both of Jackson, and Dorothy "Tod" Cox of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada; two nieces, June C. Williams of Jackson and Judy Tugeon and husband, Ron of Sault Ste. Marie.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lines Strong.
Mrs. O'Farrell worked in Florida and California for the Marine Co. Ship Yards. Upon moving to Cape Girardeau, she worked as a cutter at the former International Shoe Company and the former Florsheim Shoe Company in Cape. While residing in Cape Girdeau, she was a member of the former Maple Avenue United Methodist Church.
In 1977, Mrs. O'Farrell retired, and in 1978 she moved to Jackson. She became a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and its Esther Circle. She was also a former Sunday School teacher of the Fellowship Class.
