JONESBORO, Ill. -- Gladys Irene Carter, 66, of Jonesboro died Monday, March 3, 1997, at her home. She was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Dongola, daughter of Edward and Ruby Youngblood Mixen. She and Don W. Carter were married April 25, 1949. Carter had worked at Shawnee Cafe and Tom's BBQ. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church...

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Gladys Irene Carter, 66, of Jonesboro died Monday, March 3, 1997, at her home.

She was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Dongola, daughter of Edward and Ruby Youngblood Mixen. She and Don W. Carter were married April 25, 1949.

Carter had worked at Shawnee Cafe and Tom's BBQ. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Donna Lyerla of Jonesboro; a son, Steve Carter of Granite City; four sisters, Jean Ferrell of Chicago, Betty Shelton and Carolyn Crowell of Anna, Geraldine Del Hotal of Rock Falls; three brothers, Kenneth Mixen of Buncombe, Phillip Mixen of North Carolina, Darrell Mixen of Dixon; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and three brothers.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Harner officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery.
