Gladys I. Bond, 93, of Shell Knob, Mo., passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in her home. She was born March 28, 1919, in Advance, Mo., the daughter of David Guy and Ollie Lillian McClain Slinkard. On Nov. 16, 1942, in Washington, D.C., she was united in marriage to George W. Bond, who preceded her in death Oct. 19, 2001...

Gladys I. Bond, 93, of Shell Knob, Mo., passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in her home.

She was born March 28, 1919, in Advance, Mo., the daughter of David Guy and Ollie Lillian McClain Slinkard. On Nov. 16, 1942, in Washington, D.C., she was united in marriage to George W. Bond, who preceded her in death Oct. 19, 2001.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Gerald William Bond; three brothers, Weldon Slinkard, Melvin Slinkard and Norman Slinkard; and one sister, Bette Crites.

Surviving are three sons, Terrance "Terry" Bond and his wife, Thressa, of Bolivar, Mo., David "Dave" Bond of Shell Knob and Ronald "Ron" Bond and his wife, Kathy, of Ozark, Mo.; three sisters, Novella Howell of Chaffee, Mo., Patsy Statler and her husband, Pete, of Jackson and Jane Klaus of Jackson; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Gladys graduated from high school in Delta and attended business college at Cape Girardeau. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked 22 years for the civil service as a clerk. Upon her husband's retirement from the Air Force, they moved to St. Louis, remaining there until 1974, when they moved to Shell Knob to make their home. She was a member of Viola Baptist Church.

Some of her favorite pastimes were traveling, motorcycle riding and fishing with her husband, gardening, sewing, needlework, crafts and quilting with the church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Viola Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Richard Jones will conduct the services. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the children's program at Viola Baptist Church in memory of Gladys.
