Gilbert Blasiney

Gilbert F. Blasiney, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born May 6, 1927, in St. Louis, son of Frank and Elsie Schindler Blasiney. He and Estelle Baumann were married Oct. 16, 1954 in River Aux Vases, Mo. She survives in Cape Girardeau.

Blasiney was a farmer. He was also retired from Mississippi Lime Co. Blasiney was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW, and a charter member of AmVets. Blasiney was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and a third-degree Knight of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Wanda Bailey of Benton, Mo.; a son, Bob Blasiney of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville, Mo. AmVets service is at 5:30 p.m.; parish wake is at 6 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus.

Visitation continues from 8 to 9:50 a.m. Monday. The rosary will be said at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery with graveside military honors courtesy of VFW Post 4282.
