GLEN CARBON, Ill. -- Gilbert P. "Gib" Miesner, 85, of Glen Carbon, formerly of Farrar, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.
He was born Dec. 22, 1924, at Brazeau, Mo., son of Otto Joseph and Ella Maria Koenig Miesner. He and Lois Maxine Keen Miesner were married Feb. 3, 1951.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Timothy (Susan) Miesner and Thomas (Kathy) Miesner of Katy, Texas, Frederick (Diane) Miesner of Frohna, Mo., John (Glenda) Miesner of Fairfax, Va., Daniel (Laura) Miesner of Frohna; three daughters; Kristine (Rodney) Sherrill of Carterville, Ill., Deborah (Thomas) Hart of St. Louis, and Sarah (Harold) Goldammer of Edwardsville, Ill.
Also three brothers, Elmer Miesner of St. Louis, Dr. Donald Miesner of Ballwin, Mo., Dr. E.L. Miesner of Perryville; four sisters, Lily Ochs and Arlene Lohmann of Perryville, Mo., Vera Ruesler and Ruth Shannon of St. Louis; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Clinton and the Rev. Willis Miesner.
Miesner was a dairy farmer. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar, Mo., Salem Men's Club, Salem Senior Servants, and former District 32 School Board member.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to time of service today at Salem Lutheran Church.
A celebration of life memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at the church, with the Rev. Roger Abernathy officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 133.
Miesner donated his body to St. Louis University School of Medicine.
Memorials are preferred to Lutheran Hour Ministries, Salem Lutheran Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville provided the arrangements.
