Gertrude Thorn, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 24, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Kentucky, to Sam and Emma Sexton Tucker. She and Melvin Thorn were married Aug. 23, 1947, in Jackson. He passed away Oct. 23, 1996.
Gertrude attended Cornerstone Church in Cape Girardeau. She worked 40 years at Southwestern Bell.
Survivors include a brother, Charles (Leona) Tucker of Cape Girardeau; a niece, Cora Lee Sample of Cape Girardeau; a nephew, Jim Moore of St. Charles, Mo.; a great-niece, Patti Popp of Cape Girardeau; a great-nephew, Bradley Sample of Cape Girardeau; four great-great-nieces; and three great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter; and a sister, Corene Frentzel.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Petty officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
