Gertrude Pauline Heider, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born July 2, 1924, in Cape Girardeau County, to Henry George and Matilda Fredrica Werner Voss. She and Emil Carl Heider were married Dec. 9, 1945, at Gordonville. He died June 23, 1994.

Gertrude graduated from Jackson High School in 1943. She had been a nurses aide, cooked at various restaurants and baked cakes. She loved baby-sitting her grandchildren and crocheting. She was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and Quilting Circle.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly (Harvey L.) Brase of Gordonville, Carole (John) Schenimann of Egypt Mills and Mary (Charles) Schuessler of Sedgewickville, Mo.; a son, David K. (Lucia) Heider of San Diego; a sister, Irma Keller of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law, Betty Voss of Cape Girardeau; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Robert W. Heider on May 19, 1979; a granddaughter, Emily Schenimann on May 7, 1998; two brothers, Henry and Truman Voss; a half sister, Oleda Marie Umbeck; and a great-stepgrandchild, Bradly Carr.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hanover Church, with the Rev. Tony Kobak officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Hanover Lutheran Church Building Fund, the Alzheimer's Association or Bureau for the Blind.
