BERNIE, Mo. -- Gertrude Machen Dowdy, 88, of Bernie died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Dexter Memorial Hospital. She was born May 15, 1912, in Malden, daughter of Hugh and Ida Nichols Machen. She and Hubert Dowdy were married in Malden. He died April 20, 1966...
BERNIE, Mo. -- Gertrude Machen Dowdy, 88, of Bernie died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Dexter Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 15, 1912, in Malden, daughter of Hugh and Ida Nichols Machen. She and Hubert Dowdy were married in Malden. He died April 20, 1966.
Dowdy was a school teacher at Maple Grove School in Dunklin County and a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church in Malden.

Survivors include one brother, James Machen of Bernie.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bernie Cemetery, with Rev. John Knapp officiating.
Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie is in charge of arrangements.
