McCLURE, Ill. -- Gerald W. Sample, 77, of McClure died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born May 8, 1921, in Bollinger County in Missouri, son of DeWitt and Hattie Mae Newell Sample. He first married Barbara Constance in 1944 in Big Spring, Texas. She preceded him in death. He and Daisy Craft were married Feb. 7, 1983, in Cape Girardeau...

McCLURE, Ill. -- Gerald W. Sample, 77, of McClure died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

He was born May 8, 1921, in Bollinger County in Missouri, son of DeWitt and Hattie Mae Newell Sample. He first married Barbara Constance in 1944 in Big Spring, Texas. She preceded him in death. He and Daisy Craft were married Feb. 7, 1983, in Cape Girardeau.

Sample was a union carpenter. He worked at Riverside Lumber Co., and for Wetterau building Wal-Mart stores. He retired in 1984.

He moved from Bollinger County to Cape Girardeau and then to McClure in 1983. He was a member of American Legion Post 900. Sample served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Sample of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Rose Mowery and Caran Mayberry, both of Jonesboro, Ruby Adams of Cobden; a sister, Fern Kyle of Niceville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son and brother.

There is no visitation or service.

Burial will be at a later date in Lindsey Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
