STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Gerald John Layton, 73, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, was welcomed home by his heavenly family Saturday, June 13, 2009.
He was born Feb. 10, 1936, in Perryville, Mo., to Tom and Leola Semms Layton, now deceased.
Jerry leaves behind a wife of 51 years, Betty Schweiss Layton. They were married in a Ste. Genevieve church Sept. 7, 1957.
Jerry was the owner of Schweiss Plumbing and Heating, where he served the community for 50 years. He was also an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Ste. Genevieve golf club.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Schweiss Layton; three sons, Jeff (Cindy) Layton of Cape Girardeau, Tom (Beth) Layton of Ste. Genevieve, Tim (Annita) Layton of Kelso, Mo.; a daughter, Lori (Ron) Reinagel of Kelso; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Adam, Nick, Matt and Erika Reinagel, all of Kelso, Tasha (Matt) Cardin of Cape Girardeau, Brittany and Maria Layton of Kelso, Allison and Justin Layton of Ste. Genevieve; a half-sister, Jane McCarthy of Farmington, Mo.; and a half-brother, Paul Modde of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a loving brother, Charlie (Chunk) Layton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ste. Genevieve Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to Notre Dame Regional High School of Cape Girardeau and Valle School Foundation of Ste. Genevieve.
