GLENALLEN, Mo. -- George Marvin Mills, 91, of Glenallen passed away Jan. 27, 2011, at Woodland Hills nursing home in Marble Hill, Mo. Born on Aug. 15, 1919, in Orange, Calif., he was the son of Oliver Banks and Gladys Blanche Smith Mills. He and Florence Mae Barks were married Feb. 8, 1942. He joined the Army in June 1942 and served during World War II...

GLENALLEN, Mo. -- George Marvin Mills, 91, of Glenallen passed away Jan. 27, 2011, at Woodland Hills nursing home in Marble Hill, Mo. Born on Aug. 15, 1919, in Orange, Calif., he was the son of Oliver Banks and Gladys Blanche Smith Mills.

He and Florence Mae Barks were married Feb. 8, 1942. He joined the Army in June 1942 and served during World War II.

In 1953 they established a five-and-dime store in Lutesville, Mo. Later they sold this business, and George began working as a warehouseman for Naval Avionics in Indianapolis.

George was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fredericktown, Mo. He had been a volunteer fireman, a Lions Club member, an Odd Fellow and a member of various saddle clubs. He loved to hunt and fish.

Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jeanie Smith of Glenallen and Judith (Fred) Judge of Fairview Heights, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.
