ST. LOUIS -- George Matzat, 89, of St. Louis died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield.
He was born in Elmore, Minn. He married Eleanore M. Hansen, who preceded him in death. He later married Violet T. Taylor.
Matzat was a retired banker, working at Heitner Corp. for 20 years. He was the first administrator of the Concordia Welfare and Pension Plan for the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He was past president of the board of Zion Lutheran Church in St. Louis and a volunteer and financial adviser with the old Zion Lutheran School
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. George R. Matzat and the Rev. William A. Matzat; one sister, Dorothy F. Stanjones of Long Island; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m.-noon today at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Louis.
The funeral service will be at noon today at the church. Burial will follow in College Hill Cemetery.
