George Gilmore Sr.

George Weber Gilmore Sr., 82, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at his home.

He was born July 31, 1919, in Charleston, Mo., son of E.G. and Maude Gilmore. He and Mildred "Dooley" DeField were married Aug. 9, 1941. She died Dec. 15, 2001.

Gilmore was a graduate of Columbus University in Washington, D.C. He was a former Scott County prosecuting attorney, practiced law in Sikeston, Mo., 50 years, and then moved to Benton, Ky., and continued to practice law until 1990.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Sikeston. He was a major in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

Survivors include two sons, George Gilmore Jr. and H. Marvin Gilmore of Sikeston; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a son.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Sikeston, with the Rev. Paul Walker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, with full military honors.
