EDDYVILLE, Ky. -- George William Bruer, 81, of Eddyville and and formerly of Olive Branch, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg, Ill.

He was born March 12, 1916, in Hennipin, Ill., the son of Henry Joseph and Sarah Hetrick Bruer. On Sept. 20, 1940, he married Gertrude Abrams.

He was a retired game warden of Putnam County, Ill. He owned and operated the Cinderella Motel in Gilbertsville, Ky. He farmed at Olive Branch and Putnam County. He was a hunting guide at Marlin & Blakemore Hunting Clubs. He was an auctioneer.

He was Democratic Precinct Committeeman for Hennepin Township.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He belonged to St. Mark's Catholic Church in Eddyville.

Survivors include: his wife; two sons, William Bruer of Granville and John Bruer of Olive Branch; five daughters, Elizabeth Marquardt of Chicago, Kathyern Brantley of Paducah, Mary Blakemore of Olive Branch, Barbara Burr of McNabb, Ill., and Patricia Crowe of Princeton, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. William McGee and Rev. Billy Don Heady officiating.
