George Albrecht

On May 24, 2003, George J.L. Albrecht of Scott City died at home after his battle with cancer.

George Julius Louis Albrecht was the son of Edna Roth and Louis Albrecht and was born July 18, 1924. George was a dairy farmer for over 50 years and was co-owner of Albrecht Dairy Farms. He hosted the area Girl Scout Day Camp on his farm for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On April 20, 1952, he married his bride, Jane Ann Jones, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He was a lifelong member of Eisleben Lutheran Church, where he held many church offices.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Vicki Howell and Becky and Richard Tapley, all of Scott City; and grandchildren Adam and Jaime Howell, Brett Howell, Whitney Tapley and Austin Tapley, all of Scott City.

Also surviving are two brothers, Glenn Albrecht of Medford, Ore., and Gordon Albrecht of Scott City; four sisters, Gertrude Roeh of Houston, Texas, Grace Sandager of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Betty Schuba of Polson, Mont., and Lou Albrecht of Fairfield, Conn.; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Albrecht of Scott City and Loraine Albrecht of Clearwater, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Garnett Albrecht and Robert Albrecht.

Loved by all who knew him, you can't say anything else but that he was a SWEET man. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to Eisleben Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City on Sunday, May 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at Eisleben Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Azingler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
