George Henry Ahrens, 63, of Oak Ridge died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, son of August Henry and Emma Elizabeth Long Ahrens. He and Laverne Elbrecht were married April 23, 1959...

George Henry Ahrens, 63, of Oak Ridge died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, son of August Henry and Emma Elizabeth Long Ahrens. He and Laverne Elbrecht were married April 23, 1959.

Ahrens was a maintenance worker 23 years at Atlas Plastics, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedheim. He had been a volunteer with Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department and Cape Girardeau County Civil Defense.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bradley Ahrens of Friedheim, Kevin and Gregory Ahrens of Oak Ridge; four daughters, Wendy LeGrand and Vickie Seyer of Oak Ridge, Julie Rhodes of Millersville, Sheri Fodge of Marble Hill, Mo.; a brother, Robert "R.C." Ahrens of Friedheim; three sisters, Mary Crites and Inez Hobeck of Jackson, Virginia "Jen" Girard of Oak Ridge; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Wednesday after 9 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. A prayer service will be held at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Rev. David Burge will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
