Geneva George

ELLINGTON, Mo. -- Geneva O. George, 86, of Ellington departed this life Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Mercy Skilled Nursing Center in St. Louis.

She was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Ellington, daughter of Myrtle Ferguson and James Widger. She and John H. George were married Sept. 4, 1942, in Piggott, Ark., and to this union two sets of twins were born. John preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1986.

Geneva was a member of Ellington First Baptist Church. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed quilting, gardening "especially tomatoes" and flowers. Geneva was a wonderful cook and loved sharing the food she prepared. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, James George and wife Glenda of Nashville, Tenn., Jerry George and wife Flossie of Kearney, Neb.; two daughters, Joyce Rayfield and Josephine Mary Peukert of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Widger and wife Julia of Arnold, Mo.; a sister, June Burns of Bunker, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Widger of Farmington, Mo. Geneva will be deeply missed by a host of relatives and many friends who will mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Murl, Carl and Virgil Widger; and two sisters, Melba Kuntz and Shirley Black.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time today at McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellington.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Amyloidsos Disease Association.
