WAPPAPELLO -- Finis Eugene "Gene" Speight, 72, of Wappapello died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, at Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

He was born Sept. 2, 1924, in Memphis, Tenn., son of Finis J. and Hazel Reed Speight. He and Ellen Rose Henderson were married Sept. 8, 1942.

Speight resided in the Lilbourn area 40 years. He was a retired farmer and truck driver, and member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gene Speight Jr. of Jackson, Larry Speight of Dexter; a sister, Sue Pirani of Quitman, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ponder Funeral Home in Lilbourn, with the Rev. Almarie Reynolds officiating.
