Gene Nenninger, 66, of Cape Girardeau, died Monday, April 27, 1998 at his home. He was born October 18, 1931 in Leopold, MO, the son of Henry J. and Martha Elfrink Nenninger. He married Eleanor Holzum June 13, 1953 in Leopold, MO.Mr. Nenninger was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Church and Men's Association, the Knights of Columbus Council #6405 in Jackson, V.F.W. Post #3838, and was active in Cursillo. He was a past president of the Notre Dame Home and School Association.
Mr. Nenninger had worked for Jim Wilson Co. and later for Elfrink Trucking from which he retired. He had also been a member of the Teamsters. In addition, during the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor, of Cape Girardeau; his mother, Martha Nenninger of Leopold; a son, David Nenninger of Gordonville; a daughter, Donna Buerhle of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Edgar Nenninger of Overland, Ted Nenninger of Hazelwood, Greg Nenninger of Leopold, and Tom Nenninger of Florissant; a sister, Carolyn Nenninger of Cape Girardeau; and 7 grandchildren, Nichole, Mark, Amy, and Emily Buehrle, and Laura, Sarah, and Hannah Nenninger.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Beussink.
Friends may call at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home, Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. and followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary.
Funeral mass will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan, C.M. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #3838.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Ron Holzum, Brian Holzum, Steve Nenninger, Tim Nenninger, Chip Janet, and Rip Oberle.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Birthright, Notre Dame Building Fund, or the charity of your choice.
