MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Gene William Francis, 93, of Marble Hill passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at Woodland Hills Nursing Home.

He was born March 16, 1923, in Grassy, Missouri, son of William Lorance and Emma Elizabeth Patterson Francis. He and Eunice Hueter were united in marriage Dec. 20, 1952.

Gene was a teacher who began his career in one-room schools. He taught for more than 40 years, ending his teaching career at the Poplar Bluff Regional Diagnostic Clinic. He was a member and Elder of the Scopus Church of Christ, and also a member of the Bollinger County ARC.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice; son Brad (Leslie) Francis of Searcy, Arkansas; daughters Donna (Gary) Roberts of Glenallen, Missouri, and LaWanda (Richard) Rhodes of Marble Hill; brother Ralph Francis of Jasper, Georgia; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Glen, Claude, Henry and Raymond; and sisters Oma Phillips, Ruby Reitman, Ruth Teeters Miller and Pearl Francis.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Phillip Gould and Brad Francis officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bollinger County ARC HC 66, Box 390, Marble Hill, MO 63764.
