THEBES, Ill. -- Gary L. Walker, 59, of St. Louis died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in St. Louis.
He was born Feb. 28, 1943, in Gary, Ind., son of Garold W. and Edna B. Walker.
Walker was reared in Thebes and was a 1961 graduate of Thebes High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1966, and a master of science degree in education in 1974.
He taught at New Athens Elementary School from 1966 to 1982, continued teaching in the Department of Defense Dependent Schools System, taught at San Vito Air Base in Brindisi, Italy, from 1982 to 1990, and in Seoul, Korea, from 1990 to 1992.
Walker moved to Ste. Genevieve, Mo., in 1992 and then to St. Louis in 1993. He was a member of Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis, served as a lay leader, head of the usher committee, and lector. He was a volunteer with Food Outreach and St. Louis Effort for AIDS, and a member of Gateway Men's Chorus.
Survivors include a sister, Jeorge Ann Armbruster of Ste. Genevieve.
Friends may call at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at Christ Church Cathedral at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.
