Gary Lomax

Gary Lomax, 78, of Zalma, Mo., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 4, 1927, in Hornersville, Mo., son of J.W. and Prudie Riggs Lomax. He was the fourth of five children.

During his life he wore many hats; farmer, soldier, cotton ginner, salesman, carpet layer, auto repairman, and jack of all trades.

The one he mastered and loved was being a grandpa. He enjoyed sleeping under the stars, catching and eating fish, family float trips, 4th of July at Goo's Goo's, and anything that got family and friends together around ice cream cones and cheesecake.

He served with the U.S. Army in Korea.

Survivors include three sons, Ted Lomax and wife Diana of Carbondale, Ill., Mike Lomax and wife Cheryl of St. Louis, Jerry Lomax of Cape Girardeau; a brother, W.R. "Jiggs" Lomax of McClure, Ill.; two sisters, Betty "Pent" Korff of Washington, Mo., Blanche "Goo Goo" Dowdy of Minnith, Mo.; six grandchildren, Michelle "Pumpkin" Pobst and Amanda "Biggs" Emmons and husband Lonnie, all of St. Louis, Tim "Hot Shot" Lomax, Zach "Wack Zachy" Lomax, Jeremy "J.J." Lomax, and Jamie Rae Lomax, all of Carbondale; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth "Little Red" Emmons of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim Lomax; and a sister, Jackie Hutson.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lorimier Cemetery, conducted by VFW Post 3838 and Missouri Honor Team.
