JACKSON -- Funeral service for Gary Edward Lowes of Jackson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Cy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson, with military rites by VFW Post 3838 and Missouri National Guard 1140th Engineer Battalion of Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

Lowes, 48, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 1995, at Meadowview Regional Hospital in Maysville, Ky.

He was born Dec. 4, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, son of Glen E. "Andy" and Arline B. Voshage Lowes. He and Janet A. Winchester were married Dec. 4, 1992, in Cape Girardeau.

Lowes was a 1964 graduate of Jackson High School. He was employed by Peabody Coal Co. 18 years, and by Mid South Towing Co. the past five years. He served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Melissa Tankersley of St. Charles; two stepdaughters, Rebecca Hicks of Jackson, Melissa Hoover of Cape Girardeau; his mother of Jackson; three brothers, Michael G. Lowes of Cuba, Mo., Joe L. Lowes of Cape Girardeau, James H. Lowes of Jackson; a sister, Janet L. Palmer of Memphis, Tenn., and seven stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
