MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Frederic M. Winkler, 75, of Mound City, died Friday, May 3, 1996, at his home.
He was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Mound City, son of Mike and Allie Magill Winkler.
Winkler was mayor of Mound City 30 years, and owned Winkler Hardware. He was a member of Mound City Pilgrim Congregational Church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651, Mounds VFW Post 8891, American Legion, and National World War II Glider Pilots Association.
He was a glider pilot with the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mae.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City after 5 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery, with military rites by Mounds VFW Post.
