Freddie Ford, 77, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at his home, with family by his side.
He was a beloved husband, devoted father, adored grandfather and a dear friend to many. Freddie will be deeply missed.
He was born June 11, 1940, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Jewel and Llewellyn Townsend Ford.
He married Betty Avant, and to that union five children were born.
Freddie enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1965. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his deployment to Vietnam. He was named �Sailor of the Year� by the U.S. Naval Reserve Center of Cape Girardeau in 1987. Freddie served over 20 years in the Naval Reserves. In 1969, he graduated from the St. Louis Police Academy and worked as a police officer for the city of St. Louis for 10 years. He relocated to Cape Girardeau and he served the city of Cape Girardeau as a police officer from 1981 until he retired in 2000.
He and Angela Brower were married June 25, 1988, in Cape Girardeau. Freddie was of the Catholic faith.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Angela Ford of Cape Girardeau; six children, Jeffrey Ford of Cape Girardeau, Jonathan Ford of Corpus Christi, Texas, Felicia Ford (John Bailey) of St. Louis, Jeremy (Jennifer) Ford of Meridian, Mississippi, Joshua (Amy) Brower of De Soto, Missouri, and Francine Ford of Denton, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Marcus Schneider, Zoe Sorenson, Nicholas Brower, Devyn Ford, Lyvia Ford, Persia Sebastian, Julian Ford, Sena Ford, Tobyas Ford-Nolte, Brendan Bailey, Aiden Bailey and Andrew Bailey; sisters-in-law, Michelle (Daniel) Kitchens of St. Louis Tracey Levan of McClure, Illinois, and Carla Williams of Oran, Missouri; and mother-in-law, Carolyn Brower of McClure.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Francisco Gordillo officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
