Freda J. Stover, 89, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, surrounded by her family at the Monticello House in Jackson.
She was born Nov. 28, 1931, in LaForge, Missouri, daughter of Aubrey Lee and Beulah Robinson Glidewell. She and Herschel "Doc" Stover were married Jan. 10, 1949, in Tunica, Mississippi. He passed away Sept. 28, 2005.
Freda was an active member of First Baptist Church in Jackson for several years, serving as a sixth-grade Sunday school teacher for 21 years. She taught a ladies' Sunday school class for three years, was a member of the Mary Bible Class for ladies, the Woman's Missionary Union, the bereavement, finance and personnel committees, and was a vacation Bible school teacher for 46 years. She transferred her membership to Crossroads Fellowship Church upon the church's opening, serving from 2003 to 2012 on the bereavement committee, and was member of the Psalms Bible Study Group. Freda was a member of the Byrd's Creek Neighbor Club for several years.
In 1956, she and Hershel purchased the farm on which they raised their family. She took pride in the farm and helping Hershel. Her desire was to stay on the farm if she could, and her family made sure of that, carrying out her wishes up to her last days. Her home was always open for anyone who was passing by; she enjoyed providing a snack or meal while visiting with family or friends. Freda always greeted others with a big smile. She was always giving something of herself to others. Freda will be missed by the many she touched.
