CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Fred Lindy, 78, of Chaffee died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Hayti, Mo., to Charles Jacob and Ruby Lee Mizzell Lindy. He and Marilyn Lawson were married Feb. 14, 2008, in Chaffee.

Fred was a 1952 graduate of Chaffee High School. He attended Southeast Missouri State University, where he was a member of the 1955 MIAA championship team which went 9-0. His team was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.

Fred was a truck driver for the Postal Service, and had owned and operated a service station in Clinton, Pa. He attended Chaffee Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Lindy of Chaffee; a daughter, Beverly Jane Lindy of McHenry, Md.; two brothers, Daniel Lindy of Chaffee, Larry Lindy of Saraland, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Shelia Ottman of Park Hills, Mo.; three stepsons, Tony Whitaker of Chaffee, Kirk Whitaker of Florissant, Mo., Christopher Whitaker of Chaffee; a grandson, James Lee Dundas; six stepgrandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until service time Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau with full military rites.
