Frances R. Miner, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Ratliff Care Center. She was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Cobden, Ill., daughter of Daniel D. and Clara Mae Musgraves Richardson. She and Ernest E. Miner were married Oct. 24, 1942, in Enid, Okla. He died Nov. 13, 1997...

Frances R. Miner, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Ratliff Care Center.

She was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Cobden, Ill., daughter of Daniel D. and Clara Mae Musgraves Richardson. She and Ernest E. Miner were married Oct. 24, 1942, in Enid, Okla. He died Nov. 13, 1997.

Mrs. Miner attended Washington Grade School and Central High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1942, and a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1963. Mrs. Miner also received a specialist degree in reading from Southeast.

She taught a short time at Advance High School. She was a charter faculty member of Alma Schrader Elementary School in Cape Girardeau, teaching fourth and fifth grades 21 years.

Mrs. Miner was a member of CTA (Cape Teachers Association), MSTA (Missouri State Teachers Association), AARP and was secretary of the bicentennial commission.

She was a lifetime member of Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, helping at the desk in the surgical waiting room, sewing gowns for stillborn babies and other sewing wherever needed. She had 3,500 auxiliary hours before retiring. Mrs. Miner and her husband were recognized for their volunteer work with Red Cross and American Cancer Society.

She became a member of Maple United Methodist Church in 1946. She was a member of the Women's Society, administrative board, church historian several years, and a Sunday school teacher at various levels for 30 years.

Survivors include six daughters, Florence (Tom) Leggett of Cape Girardeau, Dr. Helen Miner of Tyler, Texas, Nancy (Lester) Wright of Jackson, Mary Miner of Niobrara, Neb., Carolyn (Del) Goodrich of Ormond Beach, Fla., Carol Farrar of St. Louis; a sister, Betty (Tom Sr.) Ross of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, John Richardson of Montana, Jim Richardson of California, Tom Richardson of Kansas and Mike Richardson of Texas.

There are six grandchildren, Jason Leggett of Columbia, Mo., Cameron Leggett of Cape Girardeau, Kathy Cavanaugh and Brad Goodrich of Florida, Holly Zarcone of Montana, Bill Farrar of St. Louis; a great-grandchild, Kaia Goodrich of Florida; a sister-in-law, Leah Richardson of Cape Girardeau; a brother-in-law, Clark Miner of New York; and many nieces and nephews.

A sister, a brother and an infant daughter preceded her in death.

Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at the chapel, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.
