FROHNA -- Marvin F.G. "Tommy" Petzoldt, founder of the East Perry Lumber Co. in Frohna, died Friday, Feb. 10, 1995. He was 85.

In addition to founding the lumber company, Petzoldt was instrumental in the development of a ferry in Wittenberg, a pallet mill in Frohna and a rock quarry in Old Appleton.

He founded East Perry Lumber in 1945, and it has grown to one of the largest hardwood lumber manufacturing mills in the Midwest. The plant employs 75 full-time and 25 part-time workers and manufactures 12 million board feet of lumber a year. The company is operated by his sons.

Petzoldt was also active in civic and church activities and helped develop the Frohna Recreation Club and ball field, the Frohna Water Department, the natural gas system in Frohna and Altenburg, and the Doctor's Memorial Clinic in Frohna. He served as a city alderman for many years.

He was also an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was past president of the voter's assembly. He was a supporter of the church school built in 1969 in Frohna and was a member of Concordia's LLL.

Petzoldt was born Oct. 11, 1909, in St. Louis, son of Adolph and Elenora Seibel Petzoldt. He and Meta Lueders were married Oct. 10, 1937.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Marvin P. and Stanley Petzoldt, both of Frohna; a daughter, Grace Schmit of Mount Prospect, Ill.; a sister, Vera Duvall of St. Louis; two half-sisters, Florence Telle of St. Louis and Lorene Zoellner of Altenburg; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

One half-brother preceded him in death.

Friends may call today from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Young and Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg and from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna, with the Rev. Luther Herman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
