Our dad, Forrest William Gore, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017.

For many years, he owned and operated Gore Store in Olmsted. Later, he joined the Veterans Administration and retired as superintendent of Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.

We are thankful Dad was active to the day he passed away; the evening before, he was reading the news on his computer and checking the stock market. Dad was a lifelong learner and graduated with honors from Drury College in Springfield in 1980. He was always available to us when needed and loved his family dearly. He taught us by example: do for others and advocate for those in need.

He was a veteran of World War II who served in the infantry as a rifleman, and was in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Bronze Star Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, was wounded three times and awarded the Purple Heart Medal and two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.
