Ford D. Childers, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1915, in Cobden, Ill., son of Jesse Allen and Eliza Ellen Pearson Childers. He and Ethel A. Blessing Glasford were married Sept. 14, 1978, in Shawneetown, Ill. She died Dec. 4, 2003.
Ford was a heat treater in a steel mill in Milwaukee, Wis. After moving to Southern Illinois he worked in the oil fields. He was a member of Civilian Conservation Corps in Lawrenceville, Ill. He was formerly of Murphysboro, Ill.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Woodall of Merced, Calif., Sherry Downer of Fairfield, Ill.; a son, Tracy Childers of Cape Girardeau; three stepdaughters, Barbara Glasford of Carbondale, Ill., Sharon Nance of Carterville, Ill., Norma Lager of Rockford, Ill.; two stepsons, Jim Glasford of Murphysboro, David Glasford of Carterville; a sister, Evelyn Reagan of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cliff Waller officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery.
