Floyd Lincoln

Floyd Collins Lincoln, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 6, 1924, at Scopus, Mo., to Miles and Ruth Long Lincoln. He had 17 brothers and sisters who helped out on the farm.

Floyd is survived by a brother, Ken Lincoln of Millersville, and a sister, Lorene Walter of Jackson.

He was drafted into the Army in February 1943 at the age of 18 and was honorably discharged in May 1946. He fought in World War II and was stationed in Germany, Belgium and France. He was a machine-gunner and received the ETO Ribbon, three Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.

Floyd and Martha Opaline Milligan were married Dec. 28, 1950, in Leachville, Ark. They had four children, Pamela Arnold of Chaffee, Timothy (Carol) Lincoln of Marble Hill, Mo., Andrea (Mike) Wendel of Jackson and Sheri Belinda, who died during infancy. They have five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

He loved to hunt, fish and work in the garden. Floyd was a third-generation carpenter more than 30 years. He was very proud that his son, Tim, continued the family tradition into the fourth generation.

He was baptized in 1962 and was a member of Scopus Church of Christ 14 years. He joined West Side Church of Christ in Jackson when it was built in 1976. He was a faithful member 36 years.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Gus Wischmann and Chad Lutes officiating. Interment will follow in Cook Cemetery in Scopus, with full military honors provided by the Missouri Military Honors Team.
