Flora Mae Thompson, 87, of Cape Girardeau was born to Hezekiah and Lorraine Thompson on Dec. 9, 1929, in Clarksville, Arkansas.
In 1950, she married James Braxton Sr., and later relocated to Hayti Heights, Missouri.
She rededicated her life to the Lord on Oct. 26, 2014, at New Haven Church of God in Christ in Wilson City, Missouri, and joined as a member under the leadership of pastor C.D. Braxton, until her health would not allow her to travel the distance.
She then became a faithful member of New Horizon in Cape Girardeau under the leadership of pastor Freddie Green and assistant pastor Charles E. Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hezekiah and Lorraine Thompson; three children; and three sisters.
On Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, she closed her eyes and let the angels take her home to a place of peace and love, where once again her soul is filled with hope, joy and eternal rest.
She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Freddie Hunter of Memphis, Tennessee; eight sons, James Braxton Jr., Maurice Braxton, Charles E. (Malissa) Thompson and Stephen D. Thompson, all of Cape Girardeau, Alex Smith, Frank Smith, George Henry Smith and Lynn Smith; five daughters, Lorraine Kalber, Patricia Braxton, Jamesetter Abraham and Carlecia Baker, all of Cape Girardeau, and Zipporah (Zurishaddai) Yisrael; 41 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at New Haven Church of God in Christ, 48 South St. in Wilson City.
The funeral service will be at noon Saturday at the church, with pastors Charles E. Thompson and Cornell D. Braxton officiating.
