PERRYVILLE -- Ewald Joseph Meyer, 80, of Groton, Conn., and formerly of Perry County died Wednesday, April 20, 1994, at New London, Conn.
He was born Oct. 8, 1913, at Apple Creek, the son of Joseph and Anna Meyer Meyer. On April 8, 1941, he married Marie Tucker, who survives of the home.
He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1960 after 20 years of service. He was in the submarine service and was on seven war patrols in the Pacific, where he earned the Bronze Star. From 1960 until 1978, he worked as an ordinanceman at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. He was a member of the Niantic Branch Fleet Reserve Submarine Vets of World War II, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Other survivors include a son, Randy P. Meyer of Williamson, Ga.; two daughters, Judith A. Parker of Noonan, Ga., and Jean Townsley of North Chelmsford, Mass.; three brothers, Edgar and Tommy Meyer, both of St. Louis, and Clemens Meyer of Perryville; four sisters, Flora Winschel and Dina Schloss, both of Perryville, Edna Buchheit of Apple Creek, and Alma Berkbigler of St. Louis; and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, and from 6:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Young and Sons Chapel in Perryville. Funeral mass will be said at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek. The Rev. John Bolderson will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
