SIKESTON, Mo. -- Evert Leon Chapman, 88, of Sikeston died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 21, 1913, at Greenbriar, Mo., son of John Edgar and Nancy Corbin Chapman. He and Otelia Coburn were married in 1932.

Chapman was a graduate of Bloomfield High School. He had farmed in Stoddard County and was a salesman in Bloomfield, Mo., and Sikeston. He was an insurance agent with Farm Bureau 12 years in Stoddard County, and later sold specialty advertising for Thomas Murphy Co. and JII Sales Promotions throughout Southeast Missouri.

He was a member of First Baptist Church at Sikeston and had been a youth leader and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 153 AF&AM.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Edgar Chapman of East Peoria, Ill., Richard Chapman of Florence, S.C.; two brothers, John Chapman of Hemet, Calif., Donald Chapman of Mill Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Lois Bell of Jackson, Mo., Jo Cossairt of Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Jim Guffie officiating. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.
