EVERETT PROFFER

ADVANCE -- Everett O. Proffer, 65, of Advance died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 21, 1932, in Bollinger County, the son of "Shorty" Proffer and Ruth Eaker Rhodes.

He married Mildred Hinkle on Oct. 17, 1952, at Advance.

He was owner-operator of Bollinger County Real Estate and Insurance Co. in Advance. He was a member of New Life World Outreach in Cape Girardeau and a member of the Trowell Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star in Marble Hill.

He is survived by his wife; his father; a son, Anthony Proffer of Las Vegas; a daughter, Theresa Calvin of Sikeston; four brothers, Wilburn Proffer and the Rev. Luther Rhodes, both of Jackson, Charles Rhodes of Florida and Buford Rhodes of Marble Hill; four sisters, Ruby Umfleet of Piedmont, Kay Osborn of Cape Girardeau, the Rev. Opal Eaker of Fairfield, Ill., and Ada Proffer of Advance; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, with Pastor Jack Cathcart and Brother Jim Calvin officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance. Visitation was Saturday.
