ORAN, Mo. -- Evelyn Marie Kluesner, daughter of the late August W. and Lucinda M. Stock Ostendorf, was born March 26, 1932, in Cape Girardeau and departed this life Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at her home in Oran at the age of 88 years.
Evelyn was raised in the country in Cape Girardeau, attended Campster Grade School and graduated from College High School. She attended St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, where she was baptized, made her First Holy Communion and Confirmation. It was there Aug. 28, 1954, that she married Eugene H. Kluesner, who preceded her in death March 20, 2000.
After the birth of their first two children, Eugene and Evelyn moved to Gene's home place in Oran, where she was a homemaker and helped raise Gene's five younger siblings.
Evelyn was instrumental is starting the Oran Peppy Peppers 4-H Club, serving as director for several years while her children were active members. She and Gene enjoyed square dancing with the Promenaires Square Dance Club. After her children were grown, Evelyn cooked for the Oran School District until retirement.
Evelyn attended Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, where she an active member of the Ladies Sodality.
Survivors include children, Mark (Janet) Kluesner of Oran, Pete (Kim) Kluesner of Chaffee, Missouri, Marlene (Danny) Scherer of Oran, Janet (Gary) Pogue of Jackson, Mike Kluesner of Oran, Tom (Katrina) Kluesner of Oran and Pat (Pam) Kluesner of Sikeston, Missouri; grandchildren, Dana (Brandon) Martignoni, Leslie (Chris) Harmon, Tracie Kluesner (Brad Kiser), Derrick Kluesner, Christy Ziegler (Jarod Holloway), Scot (Beth) Kluesner, Clayton Scherer, Monica (Sam) Boehmer, Preston Scherer, Kory Kluesner, Jake Kluesner, Garrett, William and Dallas Kluesner; and seven great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister, Ruth (Leon) Schlosser of Scott City; brother, Paul (Rose) Ostendorf of Cape Girardeau; and brother-in-law, Ken Alderman of Kelso, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Kluesner; daughter-in-law, Kyle Kluesner; and sister, Louise Alderman.
Parish prayers and visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, followed by the Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southeast Hospice or Guardian Angel Catholic School.
