Evelyn E. Kimbel, 95, of Ceres, Calif., passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Hal Le Aloha Nursing Home in Ceres. She was born July 22, 1914, in Cape Girardeau, to Herman and Marie Allen. She and Lee Philburn Kimbel were married March 11, 1934, and made their home in Scott City. They had been married 23 years when Phil passed away May 28, 1957...

Evelyn E. Kimbel, 95, of Ceres, Calif., passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Hal Le Aloha Nursing Home in Ceres.

She was born July 22, 1914, in Cape Girardeau, to Herman and Marie Allen. She and Lee Philburn Kimbel were married March 11, 1934, and made their home in Scott City. They had been married 23 years when Phil passed away May 28, 1957.

Evelyn briefly worked at the former Florsheim Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of Wesleyan Church in Scott City, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and cooked at summer youth camps.

She enjoyed reading her Bible, needlepoint, and especially enjoyed baby-sitting.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Mary (Bill) Baker of Modesto, Calif.; two sons, Billy (Joyce) Kimbel of Platt City, Mo., Tommy (JoEllen) Kimbel of Jackson; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Terry and Elwood Allen.

Her ashes will be buried at a graveside service this spring at Hobbs Chapel Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
