Evelyn K. Wunderlich Grebe, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Nov. 17, 1912, in Emporia, Kan., to Robert and Gertrude Steadman Torrence. She and Hugo P. Wunderlich were married Aug. 18, 1929, at Altenburg, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Arno Grebe July 9, 1972, and he preceded her in death in 1980...

Evelyn K. Wunderlich Grebe, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Nov. 17, 1912, in Emporia, Kan., to Robert and Gertrude Steadman Torrence. She and Hugo P. Wunderlich were married Aug. 18, 1929, at Altenburg, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Arno Grebe July 9, 1972, and he preceded her in death in 1980.

Grebe was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. She worked at Southeast Missouri Hospital, Colonial Restaurant, St. Mary Cathedral Rectory and Memorial Hall at Southeast Missouri State University.

She was a foster mother for 79 children. She lived in Altenburg before moving to Cape Girardeau in 1940, where she resided until 1972. She then moved to Oak Ridge, living there until 1979 when she moved to Jackson and then back to Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Wunderlich of Cape Girardeau, H.J. Jim Wunderlich of Burfordville, Donald Wunderlich of Cape Girardeau, Darrel Wunderlich of Gilbertsville, Ky.; two daughters, Mildred Overbeck of St. Louis, Cathy Clippard of Cape Girardeau; an adopted son, Max Wilson of Jackson; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Kenneth; a brother; and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Paul Short and Mark Martin officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran School, Saxony Lutheran High School or the Lutheran Hour.
