Evelyn E. Gholson, 85, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Heartland Care and Rehab in Cape Girardeau in the presence of her loving and faithful family.
Evelyn was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Oak Ridge, the daughter of Albert and Frieda Best Aufdenberg Sr. On April 27, 1958, she and Roy Gholson were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. Roy passed away July 7, 2009.
She was a faithful, lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church until her death. She was active in the Ladies Aid with Immanuel and was also a member of the Roberts Homemaker Club.
She worked at the former International Shoe Co. for 30 years and 11 years for Rubbermaid in Jackson. Evelyn and Roy worked on the family farm just north of Jackson for many years. She had been in nursing-home care for the past 11 years.
Loving survivors include four sons, Randy (Dorothy) Gholson, Gary (Barbara) Gholson, Billy Gholson and Jeffery Gholson, all of Jackson. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Paul, Joshua, Tyler, Gregory, David and Sara Gholson; three great-grandchildren, Naomi Goeken and James and Kayden Gholson; four brothers, Marvin (Gladys) Aufdenberg of Cape Girardeau and Albert (Jackie) Aufdenberg Jr., Leon (Donna) Aufdenberg and Robert (Shirley) Aufdenberg, all of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Marian Aufdenberg of Cape Girardeau; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Gholson, in 1962; two brothers, Harold and Earl Aufdenberg; and two nephews, Larry Aufdenberg and James Mackey.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Mark Boettcher officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, or the church or charity of the donor's choice.
