Evelyn Leona Chong, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born March 27, 1933, in Rockview, Missouri, to the late Stanley and Rhoda Ross Shumpert. She married Loo Shee Chong on Feb. 7, 1965, and he preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1994.
Evelyn was a homemaker in her own home. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two sons, Gary Erwin of Phoenix and Tim Chong of Tampa, Florida; a daughter, Sandra Hayes of Knightdale, North Carolina; four brothers, David Shumpert of Calhan, Colorado, Charles Shumpert of Scopus, Missouri, Billy Shumpert of Jackson and Michael Shumpert of Watseka, Illinois; a sister, Ruth Ann Thiele of Delta; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Richard Erwin; a daughter, Doris Lopez; two brothers, Stanley and William Shumpert; and two sisters, Gladys Shumpert and Lula Wilkinson.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, Missouri.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. David Shumpert officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Ross Cemetery in Chaffee.
