Evelyn Marie Barker, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born July 17, 1926, in Cape Girardeau to Clarence L. and Neomi Bess Hinkle. She and Dwight H. Barker were married Aug. 1, 1959, at Cape Girardeau.

Evelyn was employed by the Cape Girardeau School District for 27 years, retiring in 1986. She graduated from Central High School and received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Southeast Missouri State University. Evelyn earned her master's degree from the University of Missouri and did post-graduate work at Central Missouri University at Warrensburg, Missouri. She was a lifetime member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association local and state level.

She was a member of First General Baptist Church of Cape. Charter member and past-president of Beta Iota Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, charter member and past-president of Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club. Member and Past Matron of Cape Rock Chapter No. 60 OES. Past Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel No. 51.

Survivors include her husband, Dwight H. Barker of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Debbie (Randy) Barnhouse of Cape Girardeau; a son, Jerry (Linda) Adkins of Advance, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jay, Luke and Kevin; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at noon Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Ramdial and the Rev. Jim Rudolph officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be given to First General Baptist Church.
