ORAN -- Evans Hicks, 91, of Oran, died Monday, April 26, 1993, at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston. She was born Nov. 28, 1901, in Wayne County, Tenn., daughter of David Elisha and Alice Lucinda McGee Mitchell. She married William Sumler, who preceded her in death. She later married Elmer Andrew Moore in October 1925. He died Feb. 4, 1949. She and A.Y. Hicks were married April 30, 1979, at Benton...

ORAN -- Evans Hicks, 91, of Oran, died Monday, April 26, 1993, at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston.

She was born Nov. 28, 1901, in Wayne County, Tenn., daughter of David Elisha and Alice Lucinda McGee Mitchell. She married William Sumler, who preceded her in death. She later married Elmer Andrew Moore in October 1925. He died Feb. 4, 1949. She and A.Y. Hicks were married April 30, 1979, at Benton.

Hicks was co-owner and operator of Sikeston Tent and Awning Co., and had worked at International Shoe Co. She was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jesse Moore of Sycamore, Ill., Jerry Moore of Advance; four stepsons, Orren Hicks of Bowling Green, Fla., Eddie Hicks of Sikeston, Ralph Hicks of Morley, T.E. Hicks of Bell City; four stepdaughters, Jewell Moore of Sycamore, Geraldine Adcock of Iuka, Ill., Wanda Moore of Advance, Larlene Kirkpatrick of Morley; a brother, Tim Mitchell of Trenton, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, two daughters, 14 brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ponder Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Cline Ables will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery at Sikeston.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
