NORTH OAKS, Minn. — Eugene “Gene” Harold Wright, 84, peacefully passed away Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at Waverly Gardens in North Oaks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherrill Sue Kinder Wright; father, Harold Wright; and mother, Leona Peterson Wright.

He is survived by his children: daughter, Robin Moyer of San Diego and son, Steve Wright of Boulder, Colorado. Gene had three grandchildren, Kelsey and Kevin Moyer of San Diego and Harmony Wright of Boulder.

Gene was born in Audubon, Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering.

He served in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant with the Corps of Engineers, 1956 to 1957.

Gene had a distinguished career in sales and marketing at 3M, including five years as the international product manager for the Industrial Tape Division in Brussels, Belgium. He retired from 3M in 1994. Gene then went on to become the executive director for the Aggregate & Ready Mix Association of Minnesota, before finally retiring for good in 2001.

Upon retirement, he was able to indulge his passion for travel and fine dining. Gene was also an avid handball player, golfer, skier and marathon runner. He completed several New York City and Duluth Grandma’s marathons.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Minnesota.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested you give a gift to your favorite charity in Gene’s name.
